When you pray and wait for your answer to come to fruition, you step into a powerful space called faith. Faith is believing in God for something you cannot see—until you do see it! As Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” But how do we walk out this faith while waiting?
Let’s take a closer look at Abraham’s journey. (Read Genesis 15:1-8; 16; 17:1-5; 18:11-14 in the TPT for context.) Abraham had an unshakable expectation of God. He believed that God would not only give him an heir but also fulfill the promise of land and inheritance for future generations. What’s your expectation of God? Specifically, when it comes to healing, do you believe that you are an heir to God’s promises in this life and that you can pass on this inheritance to others? Look what Paul says to the church Corinth.
II Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
What an amazing statement. Every promise that Jesus fulfilled on His Cross is already YES before the problem arises. In Christ the truth is we start every battle with a “YES” and we always begin our races at the finish line. But historically the Body of Christ begins most of her battles at “Oh no what am I going to do,” and “If it be God’s will, (whatever that is).” Often times the Church is taught that whatever happens will happen. We must learn the ways of Jesus and begin to understand what the “Good fight of faith” is. Often times prayer is us partnering with our Heavenly Father to see the outcome Jesus paid for.
Confidence in Prayer
Our confidence in prayer lies in asking according to God’s will (1 John 5:14-15). What is God’s will regarding sickness and healing? Isaiah 53:4-5 reveals that Jesus bore our pain and sickness on the cross. During His earthly ministry, Jesus healed everyone who came to Him in faith—He never turned anyone away. Healing is not just something God can do; it’s something He wants to do.
In Genesis 15:5, God took Abraham outside his tent and told him to gaze at the stars, saying his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky. God wants to take you beyond the limitations of your own understanding—He wants you to trust that there are no limits to what He can do, including healing your body.
Stay the Course, Avoid Plan B
Genesis 16 shows us the danger of impatience. Abraham and Sarah created their own “Plan B” when they became weary of waiting, and it led to complications. How often do we let doubts creep in when answers don’t arrive on our timeline? Thoughts like, “Maybe it’s not God’s will to heal me this time,” or “God must be teaching me something through this sickness,” can sound reasonable, but they are rooted in unbelief.
Here’s the truth: God doesn’t waver in His promises. He doesn’t heal one person and not another. Look at Jesus—every time someone came to Him with sincere faith, He healed them. Every time. God’s will for healing is consistent and unchanging.
The Secret to Staying in Faith
Romans 4:13-22 reveals how to stay strong in faith. Abraham didn’t base his belief on the law but on the righteousness that comes through faith. We now have a covenant based on the blood of Jesus, who bore our sicknesses and carried our pain (Isaiah 53:5).
Abraham didn’t focus on the impossibility of his circumstances. Instead, he held onto God’s promise, giving glory to God and being fully convinced that what God had promised, He was also able to perform.
Your Faith Walk
Like Abraham, refuse to let unbelief take root. Don’t fixate on the problem or waver in your faith. Instead:
- Stay Focused on the Cross: Jesus’ finished work on the cross is your foundation. His stripes have already provided your healing (1 Peter 2:24).
- Be Strengthened in Faith: Speak God’s promises over your life. Declare His Word daily and let it build your confidence.
- Give Glory to God: Praise Him in the waiting. Worship shifts your focus from your problem to His power.
- Stay Fully Convinced: Meditate on His faithfulness. What He promised, He will do.
Remember, Abraham and Sarah waited 25 years to see the fulfillment of their promise, yet they never wavered in faith. Trust in Gods’ promises, and don’t let fear or impatience rob you of what He has already accomplished through Jesus on the cross.
Healing Is Yours
Healing is not just a possibility; it’s a promise. Trust God, walk in faith, and watch as His promises come to fruition in your life. As Genesis 18:14 reminds us: “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” The answer remains the same: No!!
